A Brief History
The Robohawks club was founded in 2010 and its home base remains a private home 3-car garage in Oakland, CA. All of the 6 parent coaches and the school liaisons are volunteers. Our team was founded as a home team for Eric Chan, Sam Scherer and Nick Thompson, who were then freshmen at Head Royce. The first kit was purchased online from the VEX store (there are no manuals) and the team went to the first competition and managed to qualify for Nationals their first year.
From that initial launch, the Robohawks expanded to 3 teams the following year. Starting that year, the Robohawks have qualified for the World Championships each year. By the third year, the team grew large enough to earn notice and sponsorship funding from the school.
We are sponsored by the Head-Royce School and all of the teammates are students of the Head Royce School. In the past 7 years, we have grown the number of teams from 1 to 8 and the number of participants from 3 to approximately 25.
The Robohawks 8000 teams are ranked among the top 5 to 10 teams in the world out of over 16,000 teams from 29 countries.
